What's Behind the Name? - Really Long

Continuing the 'What's Behind the Name' series, today we have something very long. Today we are going to see the World's longest name given to a place and what's behind it i.e its meaning, origin e.t.c. This word is really long, 85 letters to be precise and its pronunciation is also difficult unless you try repeatedly. This has been listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as the Longest Place name in the world.

Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu (a shorter version of the original name, 57 letters long), as the place is called, is the Maori name for a hill, 305 metres high in New Zealand. The meaning of this word translates roughly as The summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land swallower who travelled about and played his nose-flute to his loved one. Tamatea was the father of Khanungunu, ancestor of the Ngati Kahungunu iwi. For the prononciation of the word, you can go to the
wiki page and hear the proper pronunciation there.
