A Fact A Day # 11

For the next two days (today and tomorrow) we will read something about phobias. A phobia meaning 'morbid' or 'fear' is an intense and persistent fear of certain situations, activities, things, animals, or people. The phobias listed below relate to physiological conditions:

1. Aichmophobia – fear of sharp or pointed objects (as a needle, knife or a pointing finger)
2. Agyrophobia – fear of crossing roads.
3. Catoptrophobia - fear of mirrors or of one's own reflection.
4. Decidophobia – fear of making decisions.
5. Heliophobia – fear of sunlight.
6. Nosocomephobia - fear of hospitals.
7. Technophobia – fear of technology.
8. Triskaidekaphobia, Terdekaphobia – fear of the number 13.
9. Xenophobia – fear of strangers, foreigners, or aliens.
10. Phobophobia – fear of having a phobia.
